Biopics have become an important part of Bollywood these days, it not only gives us a vibrant story but also inspires and gives insights into the struggles and achievements of the person on whom the biopic is been made.
Here we bring you the list of upcoming biopics in Bollywood in 2019.
The Accidental Prime Minister
Based on the book of Sanjay Baru’s The Accidental Prime Minister. Baru served as media advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from 2004 – 2008. Sonia Gandhi who was to take the chair of India’s Prime Minister after the 2004 elections but had to step down after objection raised by several minster’s due to her Italian descent.
Manmohan Singh then became the prime minister of the country accidentally. The film depicts how congress always ignored Manmohan Singh in favour of Rahul Gandhi. Who was assumed to be the next prime minister of the country and what issues Manmohan Singh faced in forceful decisions made by Congress?
Balasaheb Thackrey the name needs no introduction. Balasaheb Thackrey works as a cartoonist for a newspaper. But his editor isn’t happy with it as he creates cartoons of politician which affects the sales of his paper.
He is asked to try something else but he quits his job and now his only aim is to fight for the rights of Marathi people. He sees that Marathi people don’t have any respect and are made to do all odd works. With a few people, he starts to help the needy and gains respect. To fight for the rights he also goes against the law and comes in the eye of politics.
After entering politics he starts his own party named after Shivaji Maharaj as Shiv Sena. After giving Marathi Manoos his equal rights his only wish is that one day the Chief Minister of Maharashtra should be a Marathi manoos.
Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi
Biopic of Rani Laxmibai who took the throne of Jhansi and was known as Jhansi Ki Rani. Dixit a minister in the kingdom of Jhansi notices a young girl Manikarnika and impressed by her skills puts a marriage proposal of his King Gangadhar Rao to Manikarnika.
Meanwhile, Sadashiv Rao is planning to conquer Jhansi with the help of the British as he is promised a stake in a property after the British conquer the kingdom. Manikarnika and Gangadhar Rao get married and have a son. During the naming ceremony, Sadashiv Rao poisons the holy water which leaves the baby dead and king on death bed.
Before his death, Gangadhar Rao decides to adopt a son. Sadashiv Rao gets jealous as his son isn’t adopted instead a kid who just came running to Manikarnika is adopted. Gangadhar Rao passes away and the British want to conquer Jhansi as there is no male ruler.
After the death of Gangadhar Rao British decides to conquer Jhansi as there was no male ruler, but Manikarnika takes the throne herself and fights for her kingdom.
Anand Kumar a mathematician in a small Indian village known as the calculator due to his qualities, he assured help by a politician Devraj. He happens to solve an unsolved equation from a Foreign Maths journal and gets a chance to visit Cambridge University. Due to financial issues his postmaster father breaks his PF to fund his trip.
But they still fall short of money. They approach Devraj for help who backouts and has Anand and his father thrown from his house. Anand’s father passes away due to shock and responsibility of family comes on him, he goes house to house selling Papads. One day he comes across Lallan Singh who runs coaching classes in the town who appoints Anand as a teacher.
Lallan Singh coaching classes start getting popularity due to Anand’s teaching. Anand also starts leaving lavish life. But he leaves everything as he feels rather than teaching in coaching classes he needs to teach the needy who can’t afford education. Anand starts his free coaching classes for the poor and comes in Bad books of Devraj and Lallan Singh.
PM Narendra Modi
At a very young age, Narendra Modi leaves his home and starts his career as tea seller. He denies his marriage to wife Jashben and migrates to the Himalayas to be a monk. He returns back after a few years and gets actively involved in politics and then there is no looking back from being working at a tea shop to become Prime Minister of the country his journey is portrayed in this film.
Based on the battle of Saragarhi, Havaldar Ishwar Singh posted at Gulistan fort on the Afghan border, due to his skills a British officer becomes jealous of him as he considers Indian are not worthy of it. While returning from his patrol duty he saves an Afghan woman who is trying to escape her forced marriage.
To save the women Ishwar Singh goes against his force, as soon as they reach the fort the Afghans attack the Gulistan fort. But Ishwar fights back, he is then transferred to Saragrahi fort, upon reaching there he finds the soldiers out there are not disciplined and stops their food until discipline is in place for which everyone hates him.
But when they find that even Ishwar Singh hasn’t eaten for a week they start to respect him and discipline is bought in place. Ishwar Singh and his regiment then start to help the needy villagers, until he gets the news from British officers that 10,000 Afghan soldiers marching towards the Saragarhi fort.
Ishwar Singh is given the option to back out as his army of 21 soldiers won’t last for long against the 10,000 Afghan soldiers. But Ishwar Singh and his 21 soldiers fight with the Afghans until their last breath.
A film that will unify the two biggest religions of India – Bollywood and Cricket, ’83 will tell us the incredible story of India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup victory. Ranvir Singh will play the role of star cricketer Kapil Dev in the movie.
Saand Ki Aankh
Earlier titled as Womaniya, the film is based on the life of sharp shooters from Haryana Chandro Tomar and her sister in law Prakash Tomar. They proved to everyone that there is a world for women outside their Ghoonghat’s and took up this profession in their 60s and also trained many young girls in their village. This is a must-watch biopic for the empowerment of women with two talented actresses Tapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar.
During the 80s and 90s, one name Silk Smitha was enough to make a show houseful for a film. During her fading stardom, another actress who acted with her in Playgirls 1994 started getting recognition. The 18-year-old Shakeela who came from a very poor background and took whatever work came her way.
Shakeela’s name was enough to gain the attention of her fans to make her show houseful. In late 90s and early 2000, Shakeela ruled the south softcore films. Her seductive expressions and body exposure would make her fans go crazy. After the ban on the softcore films she started taking up comedy and supporting roles in well-known films.
